About Film: Kennington Noir presents Black Angel (1946)

A falsely convicted man’s wife, Catherine (June Vincent), and an alcoholic composer and pianist Martin (Dan Duryea), team up in an attempt to clear her husband of the murder of a blonde singer, who was Martin’s wife. They confront a shifty nightclub boss (Peter Lorre), whom they suspect may be the killer.

Dependable film noir ‘bad boy’ Duryea gets to star in this loose adaptation of Cornell Woolrich’s 1943 novel. This was the last film of director Roy William Neill, who directed 111 films over 30 years, including 11 of the 14 Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce Sherlock Holmes series of films. His use of carefully layered shadows proved a precursor of the film noir style.

Doors open at 18.30, for a 19.30 start.

Refreshments will be available in our licensed cafe/bar.
