About Corbynomics - Session 2
‘Free-market’ economics has been dominant for a generation and what is the result? The world economy is in crisis, the banks are casinos for the super-rich, public services are being sold to profiteers and the gap between rich and poor has become a chasm.
A new economics is needed, one that orients around people rather than profit, that values the needs of individuals and communities rather than bankers and CEOs, and one that is democratic, redistributive and fair.
In this introductory 5 week course we will attempt to flesh out what is wrong with the current system and what this new economics could look like. We will pay close and critical attention to the developing ideas of ‘Corbynomics’, asking are they coherent? Will they work? Do they go far enough?
Simultaneously we will attempt to demystify economics, gutting the discipline of jargon and using language understandable to all.
These sessions will be led by Neil Faulkner, author of A Marxist History of the World (Pluto Press), each session will include theoretical introduction, discussion groups, and participatory plenary.
