About YOUNG HOT BLOODS
A new play by Longsight Theatre
How far have we come? How far would you go?
The Young Hot Bloods were a group of young women prepared to be on “danger duty” for the fight for women’s suffrage. Who are the Young Hot Bloods of today and should we be on their side?
Longsight Theatre have gathered voices and stories from across East London - from activists to politicians, radical feminists to anti-feminists and school children to older generations, asking; where are we now and how far would you go? These interviews form the content for our new play, Young Hot Bloods.
The show is inspired by the 1918 centenary of the right of (some) women to vote, and based on the struggles of 2018.
Young Hot Bloods, a headphone verbatim play, was first shared at From the Forest Festival in Walthamstow in July. In headphone verbatim theatre the actors perform whilst listening to the interview material on headsets; saying the lines a split second behind the original material. This is an intimate, exciting and honest form of story-telling.
In a hundred years from now will anyone be celebrating our victories? And can we even agree what we are fighting for? Is this generation as ‘woke’ as they think they are? Is this the beginning of a new era?
