About Autism in Focus
Lancefield Private Clinic and Emer Maguire are very proud to announce our second Autism in Focus conference due to popular demand. This conference aims to create a greater understanding of the minds of autistic adults and teens. Based in Belfast, the conference will take place on Monday 24th June 2024. We are keen to empower and support our autistic community through education. The ticket price includes a full day of talks, panels, and conversations with professionals and autistic people. It also includes refreshments and lunch.
Who is the conference for?
This will be a full day conference and is aimed at professionals, autistic adults and teens, and their families and partners. However we encourage anyone who wants to learn more about autism to attend.
Content:
We have a packed full day programme that we are excited to share with you. We will hear from autistic teens and adults, and will hear from various clinical specialists on a wide range of topics. Here are some of our speakers and topics:
- Diagnosing autism in an adult - Siobhan Mawhirk, Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
- Exploring masking in females - Michaela Reavey, Clinical Director at Lancefield, Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
- Sensory strategies for autistic adults and teens - Judith McLernon, Specialist Occupational Therapist
- The life journey of an autistic female - Emer Maguire, autistic adult, Autism in Focus host, Speech and Language Therapist
- We will also have two autistic teenagers sharing their experiences
- Autism in the workplace - Michaela Reavey, Clinical Director, Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
- In conversation discussions with professionals and autistic adults, and professional panels exploring questions from our audience
About our host:
The conference is co-created and hosted by Emer Maguire, Lancefield’s Patron and Northern Ireland’s own comedy success story. Emer has a diagnosis of autism, and we feel it is so important to have neurodivergent minds front and centre at Autism in Focus. Emer was a Speech and Language Therapist before moving into comedy, so has a great insight into Autism from both a personal and professional perspective. Emer is passionate about advocating for her autistic community. We are delighted to have such a wonderful host to work with.
