Brush Lettering for Beginners

Brush lettering is a popular and commercial style of hand lettering seen on greeting cards, signs, and contemporary art pieces. It’s versatile and easy to learn. All you need is a brush pen, some guidance, and you’re ready to start!

Looking to learn a new skill? Looking for a different evening out with friends? Come and learn the art of Brush Lettering at one of my small friendly beginners classes.

In the workshop, I’ll take you step by step through the basics of brush lettering, provide a full toolkit to support your learning, and help you to produce your own brush lettered artwork to take home.

You’ll begin by learning some practice strokes, and getting a feel for working with a brush pen. Then you’ll learn both lower and uppercase letter-forms with the help of a demonstration and a practice sheet. We’ll then start putting them together to make words, before writing out a phrase. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have created your own piece of brush lettered artwork.

What do I get in my toolkit? Two brush pens - a hard and soft tip - that will help you to create different letter sizes and styles, and some practice guide sheets to help you on your own lettering journey at home.

All classes are taught by myself, Caroline Walters, at Flower Budds and are limited to a maximum of 5 students, so you get more personal guidance to help you focus on your goals. There’ll be teas and small nibbles to have while you learn.
