About Thistle Group + P.Wits + Kleistwahr + Midnight Mines
Mystery Plane presents
Saturday 7 December
Pulse Studios, Unit K, Blackhorse Mews, Walthamstow, London E17 6SL
6pm tll late
THISTLE GROUP is Claire Mahoney's "slowly scrambled solo endeavour". Low Company Records sez: "Thistle Group lays down the sleep-deprived, hyper-sensitised, high-lonesome vibe: Mahoney's drowned-folk vocalisations bobbing and weaving amidst industrial flotsam / ice-floe, strangled guitar and funereal one-armed-drumming. Party! 'High' gestures in the direction of pop bliss, with its spacey Fisher Price keyboard tones (think Pickle Factory, Call Back The Giants etc) and gently climbing lullaby melody, and 'Always The First Sleep' combines righteously involuted axe-melt in the tradition of Mahoney's countrymen Brian Crook and the Dead C with cold machinic death-throb, and 'Into The Night' comes over like some unholy hybrid of CDF and early '90s Whitehouse."
P.WITS aka Auckland-based experimental artist Benedict Quilter, who also records collaboratively with Psychick Witch and Yawn, and is the co-founder of adventurous label Independent Woman Records.
KLEISTWAHR is the solo project of Gary Mundy from Ramleh. It originally existed in the 1980s as an electronic project and was revived in 2009 as an outlet for Gary’s solo electronic/noise/organ/guitar compositions. Previous releases on Broken Flag and Nashazphone. New double LP 'This World Is Not My Home / Over Your Heads Forever' out soon on Fourth Dimension Records.
MIDNIGHT MINES are an improv-garage duo from London: primitive riffs, tape loops and ecstatic idiot abstraction. Releases on I Dischi Del Barone, the Loki Label, Independent Woman Records and their own Mystery Plane imprint.
