About Hackney Wick Culture Jam Walk

Max 10 spaces: intimate small group tour. Includes a glass of tasty Kompassion Kombucha or Karma Cola from a local enterprise!

What's going on in the Wick? Everything!

I'm walking artist and veteran local guide Simon Cole (Hackney Tours) and I've spent more than a decade exploring the alternative subcultures that made Hackney Wick so special. I've collaborated with several local arts hubs and I'm the first Writer in Residence at the brilliant arts & community hotspot Grow.

If you like East Berlin, street art, warehouse/DIY culture and trendspotting, you'll love this (all outdoor, distanced) walking conversation - and even have a chance to get involved.

Explore this previously hidden corner of the capital and uncover some of its myriad secret stories. Unpick centuries of East London history right next to the biggest regeneration project in Europe, in an area changing by the week.

Is this the 'new Shoreditch'? What does that actually mean? Take a guided walk around former Victorian factory town Hackney Wick - recently home to 1,000+ artist spaces - to the edge of the Queen Elizabeth II Olympic Park and London's newest neighbourhoods.

I've 15 years of entertaining people, but as a socially-engaged artivist, I'll give you a unique perspective and a different angle. I use prisms such as Situationism, Culturejamming and Psychogeography to deconstruct this rapidly changing and complex landscape. I'll explain how it connects to globalisation issues too.

Is it an 'antitour'? Who knows? Is it playful and inquisitive? It is! Will it be all the richer for you bringing your sense of wonder to the streets with me? Definitely.

(This is a lighter version of the tour for universities such as LSE, Goldsmiths, Westminster, Alexander von Humboldt and more. Hackney Tours started as a reaction to the 2012 Olympics and the ongoing changes that invite us to ask ourselves what kind of cities we want and who they're for?)

Be part of a playful experiment. Your responses to this experience becomes part of an ongoing research project in fast-changing East London...

Terms & conditions for Hackney Wick Culture Jam Walk

To keep it intimate, places are limited to only 10 of this. Because I will be unable to refund tickets after the Tuesday before the event. In the unlikely event of horrendous weather, I will give you the option to cancel as nobody wants to be miserable!
