About RSPCA Vet and Vet Nurse Wildlife Webinar Series

This course provides an overview on dealing with wildlife casualties in a practice setting. Webinars will cover initial steps from triage and stabilisation of patients, including essential practical information, top tips on identification and husbandry, and common conditions of wild British mammals and birds. The course ends with an interactive case session, providing a unique opportunity for delegates to apply what they’ve learnt in a safe and supportive environment, with the chance to gain valuable input from wildlife vets. Delegates will complete the course feeling more confident to tackle common British wildlife species and their conditions when they present to first opinion practice.

This course is a fantastic introduction to the two 2 day practical courses we run at Stapeley Grange each year, which provides a hands-on teaching experience to reinforce the theory learnt on this course.

The course will be run by four of Stapeley Grange's veterinary team:

Dr Bev Panto BSc (Hons) BVetMed CertAVP (ZooMed) PGCert (VetEd) FHEA MRCVS - Bev graduated from the RVC in 2009 and has a BSc in Veterinary Conservation Medicine from University of Liverpool.  She spent 3 years in private practice alongside pro-bono work for the Wildlife Aid Foundation. She became the veterinary officer for Stapeley Grange in 2013 . Bev is an RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Zoological Medicine and holds the Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice in Zoological Medicine. She is a lecturer at Harper-Keele Vet School, and teaches on the University of Nottingham wildlife elective. She also acts a a veterinary consultant to Wildlife Aid and has provided extensive wildlife training to organisations such as Wildlife Rehabilitation Ireland and JSPCA.

Yannick Van de Weyer, BSc (Biology), DVM, MSc (WAH), MRCVS. Yannick graduated as a vet from the University of Ghent in 2019. He then completed a one year internship at a busy small animal and exotics referral practice in Hampshire, after which he obtained an MSc in wild animal health at the Royal Veterinary College and the Zoological Society London. Yannick spent several years as a volunteer working at different wildlife rescue centres and zoological collections, before he joined the RSPCA Stapeley Grange wildlife centre in 2021.

Nicola L P Williams BSC (Hons) RVN C&GCertVNES - Nicola graduated as an RVN in 2015 whilst working at a 24 hour emergency referral practice. During her time in referral, Nicki volunteered at several wildlife hospitals and charities within the UK where she gained valuable skills that helped her to gain employment at RSPCA Stapeley Grange Wildlife Hospital.   Once qualified, Nicki went on to complete her certificate in veterinary nursing of exotic species and wildlife. Outside of her work duties, Nicola pursues her interest in biological monitoring, surveying and conservation, and volunteers for several wildlife organisations such as Shropshire Dormouse Group, Butterfly Conservation, Wildlife trust and the British Trust of Ornithology.

Dr Sophie Common BVetMed MSc (Wild Animal Health) MRCVS - Sophie graduated in 2016 from the RVC.
